I am the cofounder and Executive Director of Oliver Patch Project but most of all Oliver's Dad.In May 2020, our oldest son Oliver (9) was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia - A.L.L. To say our family was thrown for a loop...is an understatement! For families like ours on a cancer journey, you know what it’s like to go through a roller coaster of emotions, from denial to despair, and everything in between. We quickly realized that Oliver and his younger brother, Peter (4), needed us to be brave, strong, and face things head on! We decided right then and there to turn things around with the power of positivity. The Oliver Patch Project (OPP) is a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit corporation whose mission is to create a free, fun, engaging platform where children with childhood cancers and their families can connect through a series of unique patches created by artists and designers just for them. We empower kids to find their inner warriors, as they endure life changing milestone events, by providing a bit of sunshine throughout their cancer journey. The project is currently open to children and teens in the United States undergoing active treatment for cancer, is supported by donations, and all the fun is provided to our Warriors 100% free of charge. Showing in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally Burkhardt’s work has been placed within the top two hundred private, corporate and museum collections worldwide. A few of the places his work has shown are the Miller Block Gallery (Boston), Judi Rotenberg Gallery (Boston), Bernice Steinbaum Gallery (Miami), Freight and Volume (New York), Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts (New York), Volume Gallery (New York), Gallery Diet (Miami), The Museum of Fine Arts (Boston) as well as a solo show at Wyoming Art Museum. Recent publications include The Boston Globe, Art Matters, Art Papers, Boston magazine, Orion magazine, and the New York Times. In 2010, a book was published on his work titled “Ecological Mimesis” which successfully documented over a decade of his work. As a designer with a strong interest in the accessory and fashion industry Brian was named the winner of Lifetime's Project Accessory (Season One) and has since designed a capsule collection for Kenneth Cole and has shown during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim. His designs have been featured in periodicals such as Elle, InStyle and Nylon magazines. He has won two gold addy awards for his photography, creative and art direction as well working as a freelance creative for such companies as 7-up, Brides magazine, Ralph Lauren and Teen Vogue.
