Oculer was established in Ireland with a mission to develop and commercialise revolutionary new technologies for high throughput rapid microbiological screening assays. Providing a full-stack solutions for industrial microbiology laboratories, Oculer is a world leader of rapid testing for the food & beverage and pharmaceutical industries, enabling manufacturers to detect microbial contamination in their products and manufacturing processes faster and more precisely than current alternatives. Oculer was spun-out from the Technopath Clinical Diagnostics Group in Co. Tipperary in 2014 and went on to purchase the Greenlight® rapid microbial test business from US-based Mocon Inc. in 2018.Since its acquisition, Greenlight has been rebranded as the Oculer Rapid 930 Series to coincide with upgrades to all aspects of performance and reliability of the technology. Now manufactured by Oculer in Ireland, the system is a self-contained bench top instrument incorporating an incubator and luminescence detector, the use of which requires no specific microbiological expertise. Sample vials containing our own bioengineered culture media are shipped to customers after gamma irradiation. There are two versions of the instrument suitable for incubation of 48 x 2ml vials or 24 x 15ml vials. If tests vials are incubated off-line, the total number of samples that can be run simultaneously increases to 432 and 216 respectively. When used in quantitative mode the Greenlight instrument calculates the concentration of target bacteria and the results are expressed as colony forming units per ml of sample.
