Senior Technical Specialist
Developed high efficiency two-stroke opposed-piston turbodiesel engines for on-highway trucks, military, and stationary power generation. Responsible for friction, lubricant oil package, and durability aspects of the engine. Managed the budget and led a team of five engineers, eight vendors, and four consultants. Involved design, development, testing, and analysis of pistons, rings, cylinders, and lubricant oil. Achieved the best lube oil consumption of any two-stroke ever published in the open literature.Next I set the foundation of the company's cylinder gas scavenging system by revamping the set of charging parameter definitions and the entire analytical process. I put this to use designing and developing the cylinder scavenging system achieving perfect trapping at volume scavenging ratios >80%. To get this done I quickly learned Converge CFD software and wrote my own Matlab post-processing scripts. I now have 3 years' experience using Converge.As needed by the company I jumped into a position to model piston undercrown oil cooling, a multiphase CFD case, using ANSYS CFX software. While learning a new software I quickly identified what parts of the analysis provided value while minimizing use of company computer resources. This led to quick-turnaround analytical problem solving. I expanded my CFX experience to model coolant heat exchangers to minimize flow loss and parasitic power drag on the water pump. I now have 2 years' experience with CFX and a little with ANSYS Fluent.Lately I oversaw all mechanical aspects of the Achates engine for Peterbilt and Walmart in their Class 8 on-highway truck. This involved detailed checking of hundreds of technical drawings and immersive understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5-2009. It also involved advanced knowledge of PTC Creo (Pro/E), for which I now have been a user since 1996.
