I subspecialize in head and neck oncology and microvascular surgery. This includes complex thyroid and parathyroid surgery, head and neck oncologic surgery, including mucosal and cutaneous cancers of the head and neck, robotic head and neck cancer surgery and complex reconstructive surgery requiring microvascular free flaps. In addition, I specialize in complex airway reconstruction for patients with airway narrowing due to cancer, traumatic injuries or long-term intubation.I completed my residency at the University of California, Davis, which is recognized as a premier training program in the country, and fellowship training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, home of a top head and neck cancer center.Throughout my residency and fellowship I have had the opportunity to cultivate my academic interest by publishing over 21 peer-reviewed articles. I am most passionate about functional outcomes after head and neck ablative and reconstructive surgery. I have published research on swallowing outcomes following different types of reconstruction after laryngectomy surgery and the use of 3D printing to optimize complex skull base surgery. In addition, I have a tremendous interest in resident surgical education, and am on national committees and have authored numerous publications on the use of resident boot camps to teach emergency otolaryngology skills. Finally, my wife and I have spent over a year in Mbarara, Uganda and continue to return to Kampala, Uganda to perform head and neck oncologic surgery and microvascular reconstruction with an emphasis on local resident education. That is a true passion of mine and something I hope to maintain throughout my career.
