Final year actuarial student at Gadjah Mada University. I am interested in actuarial studies and how they may impact the lives and financials of many. An actuary deals with probabilities and risks by incorporating unknown variables and putting them to good use so that anyone may understand the study's implications and benefit from doing so. Insurance is always connected to the study and its main focus is to help others cover their random and unexpected expenses.I was interested though skeptical when I first heard about actuarial science. However, after digging deep into the subjects and study outcomes, I can finally conclude that to be an actuary, not only specialized math knowledge is needed, but one is also required to have good communication skills, good business sense, and strong teamwork. All these qualities are what I have always been striving for. Thus, I finally found out and realized the significance of the study and how it may relate to my goals, not to mention this is also due to my awareness of my surroundings and my desire to try to make a difference and help those in need. Combining them with my strengths in analytical, programming (R software & excel), problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, I am confident to say that I am a good fit for this role.To my surprise, I discovered that there are also many types of actuaries out there, but some have particularly caught my attention, for instance, pricing in health insurance and investment actuary. Formerly, my colleagues and I had done a time-series project to predict the assets and liabilities of an insurance company, so I think this can also be applied to specialized fields like investments. Forecasting-based models using regression prove helpful because we can predict outcomes with minimum errors as long as we have prior historical data. Furthermore, I am also currently interested in several insurance companies and I am looking forward to seeing where my major and passion will take me.
