I lead the technical team responsible for personalized and optimized recommendations on the Peacock homepage. We increasing annual viewership by 594 million hours by building custom model training pipelines using deep learning.Led a company wide, cross-functional initiative to improve the quality of data that resulted in more accurate reporting, clearer insights from A/B tests, and better training data for machine learning products.

I led the growth-driven Content Personalization and Recommendations team. We increased CTR (and subsequently programmatic revenue) across the website and apps, including +29% to the Trending units and +41% to the main feed, by implementing optimizations to our existing statistical models or iteratively developing new recommendation systems in Tensorflow/Keras, leveraging Google’s Vertex AI.Additionally, I revolutionized BuzzFeed’s first-party behavior tracking data by leading an organization-wide initiative simplifying our data instrumentation with a standardized, flexible, and privacy-compliant schema applied to all events. This new tracking data is the foundation for all of BuzzFeed’s high-level audience engagement metrics and machine learning models. Additionally, this new data regime’s simplicity and reliability enabled the creation of a centralized Product Analytics team, and led to widespread performance improvements (e.g. increased CTR +13% for app feed pages).

Working autonomously, I developed a variety of the company’s core ML products, including a Twitter-like “Trending Topics” anomaly detection algorithm, an unsupervised model used to programmatically label clusters of users leveraging keywords in their bios, and improved the product’s core community detection algorithm.

Contributed to the The Panama Papers by analyzing and producing an interactive visualization of the network structure behind the 320,000 entities involved in the unprecedented leak of documents exposing the world of offshore tax havens. And provided analysis and reporting for “Arresting America”, a look into 35 years of the FBI's granular, nationwide crime data.

Designed the overall aesthetic and user experience of websites, collaborating with the web-developer to build the site’s architecture, while working closely with clients.

Culling from Enigma’s vast collection of public databases, developed a web-based dashboard with D3.js, visualizing the millions of international shipments entering United States seaports in 2014.

Oversaw the production of sculptures and large-scale installations. Created digital mock-ups for planning and visualizing the works, researched and sourced the elements and processes to efficiently construct them, managed production within the studio and to outsourced specialists, and aided in the physical fabrication or installation of the final pieces. Systematized artist’s 20 year physical/digital archive into a visual database, gathering and photo-retouching related materials.
