Profile A creative Designer, Researcher and Educator, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) since 2016. 19 years teaching Automotive and Transport (Industrial) Design at Coventry University. Guided and mentored hundreds of students in Automotive and Transport Design. Ongoing research interests include design-led development of sustainable vehicles through downsizing, weight reduction, aerodynamic improvement, sustainable manufacture, and vehicle guidance. Authored on new pedagogy and produced book and encyclopaedia chapters on design. Took early retirement from a successful career in Design Teaching in August 2018 to enjoy being a grandparent. Automotive Design SupervisorStyling International Ltd (Hawtal Whiting Group) 1990 - 1991Leamington Spa, United KingdomJoined Styling International at its inception as a 3rd year placement student and was immediately given client work by my mentor, former Citroen styling director, Geoff Matthews. Given considerable responsibility which included the interior design of the ERA Mini Turbo and Interior design and production design (in France) of the thermoplastic bodied ERAD Spacia microcar. My most significant task (built around my final year student project at Coventry) was the modular manufacturing concept, interior and exterior design of ‘Concept 92’, a family of full-size modular mono-volume concept cars including a postal delivery van, micro people carrier and a cabriolet. I also contributed to a re-bodied bespoke sports car based on the underpinnings of an existing mainstream sports coupe and day to day supervision of a ground-up design for a side-engine four-wheel-drive sports car using an innovative composite manufacturing method. The latter was a commissioned for a major international manufacturer.Due to my past career in Civil Engineering I engaged with projects with high technical content. requiring design liaison with engineering staff.
