The farm plan has several strategies integrating pine timber & beef cattle operations using a combination of pasture and "silvo-pasture" systems for maximized yield of products associated with timber.

Responsibilities include providing technical forestry assistance to 3000+ NIPF landowners on 225,000 + acres, with coordination and administration of state and federal cooperative forestry programs. Technical assistance includes providing management plan recommendations in regards to growing timber and its care, thinning and timber harvests,site prep and reforestation, insect and disease control, prescribed burning, and assists in forest fire prevention/ control.

Forest Inventory Work has been routinely performed for a number of large forestry consultants and timber companies in the Southeastern US, on a part time basis. Forest inventory skills learned as a student research assistant at MSU have been utilized on over 400,000 acres the past 12 years.Work has been performed for the following Companies: King Forestry, Southeast Foreslands, Lee Forestry Contracting Services, Jowett & Wood Consulting Foresters, American Forestland Management, Mitchell & Prewitt Contracting, The Foresty Company, Bielling Site Preparation, International Paper Co.

Weyerhaeuser's Columbus Modified Fiber Facility produces a specialty fiber that is chemically andmechanically treated to provide increased resiliency and permeability over conventionalfluff pulp. My employment focus area was in Pulp Inventory, Control, & Fiberization. During my short tenure with Weyerhaeuser, i received a promotion, and served as an employee trainer with a new plant operating sytem known as MPS/FI (Management, Procurement, Supply, Finance, & Inventory). The plant operating system linked 19 Weyerhaeuser mills in U.S. and Canada under one central computer system.

Prescribed burning of cut-over timberland, for site preparation before replanting back into trees. If it was not raining, we were burning. If it was too hot/windy to burn, we were marking boundary lines, painting SMZ's prior to timber sales, and evaluating timber harvests that routinely took place on 450,000 acres of land in South central MS.

I worked at MSU as a student, on a research project called the Forest Inventory Pilot Project. The project used satellite imagery, remote sensing, and "on the ground" forest measurements to estimate specific values and acres of forest cover types over a 5 county area, successfully at the 90% confidence level. This project utilizeded GPS as it was made available for civilian use in 1999.Land use cover types were classified using Erdas Imagine Software & Landsat TM imagery into the following categories: Water/wetlands, urban areas, roads, fields/agriculture, & forestry. Forest land use was further broken down into planted pine, (age classes: 0-5 yrs old, 5-10 yrs old, 10-15 yrs old, 15-20 yrs old, 25-30 yrs old, and 35+ yrs old), natural pine, mixed pine/hardwood, & hardwood cover types.
