I headed up a great team of engineers responsible for all aspects of the hardware development in the Excel LNX programmable switching platform. My team consisted of development engineers, compliance, sustaining engineering, configuration management and tech writing. My role was to build the infrastructure and hire the talent to support the explosive growth being experienced by Excel. We grew the company from 66 employees to over 800 during this time and eventually succeeded in selling the company to Lucent for $1.6B.
Lightscan was a start up within an established organization. The strategic goal was to build an emerging company as the old meter technology was under competitive pressure overseas and from new technologies. I headed up a team that designed and developed high performing fiber optics test equipment. We innovated the ID and functional performance of this category of product. In two years we developed and brought to market fiber power meters, laser and LED sources.
I headed up the engineering group that developed digital test equipment for the telecommunications industry. My team specialized in digital products that supported live testing in central offices and in the field. We developed leading products for T1/DS0/DS1/DS3/SLC96 transmission. Later I also had responsibility for fiber optics laser sources/power meters and fiber identifiers and analog test equipment for Telecommunications. Great experience, great products, great team!
