As a part of his time with us, he worked on data visualizations and an app for improving data privacy. The visualizations that he developed contributed to client-facing work and are still in use. He was newer to R, was eager to learn, and was excited that he was able to directly apply his coursework at the time to meaningful work. The app that he developed turned out better than I could have expected. In our preliminary meeting, I intended for us to learn about Shiny and possibly start a foundation of code for the app by the end of the internship. The next time I met with Brian he had a partially working prototype despite having never used Shiny before. He had a good sense of when to try different approaches and when to ask for help/advice. By the end of his internship we had a fully function app for masking data sets and automatically generating associated keys. I think the quality and speed with which Brian was able to engage with new tasks and learn new skills in such a short amount of time is indicative of his curiosity, his drive, and his reliability in the work that he does. It was fun to work with him and it was fun to experience the energy he brought with him. I have nothing but praise to share about Brian both in terms of his work and as a coworker."
