Westwood is a community FQHC located next to Knapp Elementary School in the Denver Westwood Neighborhood. I learned how to be a manager in this clinic with a dedicated team of professionals who enjoyed community engagement and the work they do every day to improve the health of the community. Together we made it through a clinic remodel that lasted nearly 8 months while maintaining high patient experience and quality scores.

Infection Control, housed within the Department of Patient Quality and Safety, was the perfect place for me to land as I took my career beyond the bedside. I used all my experience from nursing, economics, public administration, and training and development to support over 45 different clinics for Ambulatory Care Services of Denver Health in a period of Covid emergency scale down and transition to normal operations.Member of AACN, ANA, CNA, APIC

As an actively engaged employee I tend to find myself doing so much more than learning the ins and outs of the units I am on. The SICU is certainly no exception. I am a life long learner with some of the most complex trauma cases within the Denver Metro area to continuously challenge me. On top of that I am a Team Lead for High-Risk Infection Team of the Region 8 Ebola and Special Pathogen Treatment Center. I am also on the hazmat team, the shared governance committee for my unit, the author of the quarterly unit newsletter, member of the 2019 Nurse's Week Committee and a special project lead for aiding in the creation of a facility wide nursing retention program. I enjoyed my time with Centura working roughly one 12-hour shift a week in 5 different hospitals on various units. This time presented unique challenges with learning facilities and unit practices while being fluid enough to take any patient assignment and self-motivated to keep my performance standards high with minimal supervision.

This is where I "cut my teeth" as a fledgling nurse. Being on a cardiac focused Step-Down unit allowed me to quickly develop strong assessment skills while providing care for a varied patient population to learn and grow. In-spite of the rigorous time management required to be successful on the unit I was able to continue being an engaged employee by being a founding member of the unit's shared governance committee, and as a regular contributor/author of the unit's newsletter. My crowning achievement was getting my unit recognized by The Joint Commission for having a "Best Practice" educational too which I developed on my own time to allow for better patient education with incentive spirometry compliance. I also participated in a facility wide "caring campaign."
Lone Tree, Co, Us
My time at Sky Ridge served as my introduction into Health Care. However, my innovative spirit took hold again in this role as I became the first chair of the newly formed CNA Shared Governance Council as well as a member of the Ortho unit's council. I also enjoyed a personal win by engaging in hospital wide activities, having once earning the naming rights to the new stroke-telemedicine robot- which was named ISABELLE, after my daughter.
San Francisco, Ca, Us
Years later, I am proud of the work I did at the time. Supporting up to eight different stores, helping with shrink reductions of over 50% in some of the busier locations, developing manager training for my team to identify internal fraud and finally, a team collaboration with other loss prevention agents from across the country that led to standardized Loss Prevention New Hire training for all Old Navy. I am sure it's changed since, but at the time, it was an amazing accomplishment for us.

Looking back... I can't help but wonder why I keep this on my profile... Its because I am still proud of the work I did while in this role. I developed a talent for internal theft and fraud investigations, excelled at training new employees and helped with special training for employees regarding organized retail theft during the 2002 Olympics. Yes, it was a low skill job, before I started into my educational and professional career, but it was also a demonstration of me giving everything that I am to my employer, as I still do to this day.
