I'm a bit of a generalist. Aside from my books, I've built plenty of robust automated/SaaS systems and microservices, running the process all the way from design and specification, through leading the development team in testing, coding, deployment, and maintenance. Being very hands-on, I usually take responsibility for the code in at least one subsystem if I'm the lead. Two aspects of the systems that I build (or otherwise work on) is that they usually involve asynchronous processing and a scalability factor. Part of scalability involves knowing where to look (for example, identifying heavy database query load, ORM overhead, or opportunity for parallelization), but also resisting the urge to optimize everything at the expense of reliability and readability. There is always a balance to strike.
