Living

I took a City & Guilds 2377 course for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. When letting out property, I found that it was necessary to do regular testing of electrical equipment in rental properties, hotels, offices and virtualy anywhere else that electrical equipment is supplied for use. This looked like a lucrative market so I took.

Spent a few months looking for an appropriate property then purchased it. Spent 7 months fixing ceilings, replacing electrics, plumbing, painting and decorating. Property is now let to a tenant.

Technical support for uTCA and ATCA hardware and software products. Use of debian, ubuntu and red hat linux with GNOME/KDE desktops and KDevelop 3.5.2 Integrated Development Environment.

I spent about 7 months working on USB OTG for use in motor vehicle systems. Unfortunately Motorola closed their facility in Livingston and the work was transferred to a low cost country.

11 months producing driver, self test, API and UUT test software for a VXI Rack containing ATTI 502 graphics generator/capture card, Racal 2583 Frequency Response Analyser, SMP1200 Switch Base Units containing MUX and Switch modules, VM3616 DAC and VM2710 DMM. 11 months real-time embedded C on a PowerPC including requirements analysis, detailed design.

Trained 2 graduate engineers and lead a team of 4 engineers.Developed Signal Processing cassettes and designed associated back plane. Re-designed hardware for obsolete components, design fixes and re-layout.Initially tested cassettes to component level using multi-meters, counter/timers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers.Progressed through development of test.

Logistic support for Technical Publications/Spares and requirements.

Supervised a team of 12 technical authors and senior technical authors.Managed and validated technical publications for Sea Harrier, Tornado and Merlin (helicopter) radars and radar test equipment.

Supervised 5 technical authors writing technical publications ranging from radar systems to component level and from removal/replacement to test and functional description/diagrams.

Obtained information from engineers/drawing sets etc to produce block diagrams and descriptive text for technical publications.
