I have been in plastics for 35 years. I began working for the Plastek Group in 1996 managing the tool room. Being a support department to 71 injection molding machines it was my responsibility to maintaining the condition of the molds to improve production efficiencies and metrics. In this capacity I also managed high volume "take over" consumer packaging production projects. I was responsible for installing the assembly equipment, decorating equipment, the molds and then integrating these systems into production and quality. Validating these systems to the customer requirements. two main programs were Mentadent Toothpaste packaging (70MM/yr) and the original Axe Body Spray aerosol canister (280MM/yr). I was promoted to Technical Program Manager and worked for Plastek's corporate PM team. I quickly became the senior program manager and trained new recruits from PSU Beherend Erie campus. My main customer was Unilever and deployed consumer product/packaging manufacturing cells around the world for both the Dove and Degree brands. I was promoted to Division General Manager of Triangle Tool; one of two Plastek tool shops for building plastic injection molds. I was responsible for this divisions 65 employees and the company P&L. Triangle built injection molds for customers around the world including P&G, Schick, Unilever, Sun Products, Church & Dwight, Danone, and Reckitt Benckiser. While I was the GM at Triangle Tool the VP of Plastek Global Tooling asked me if I would consider running another Unilever program. This program was important for Plastek because it was a from different product category within Unilever. Plastek is a main supplier for the Personal Care category within Unilever. This program was for their Food and Beverage category. Plastek wanted this program to run flawlessly because they wanted to impress the management and program team with the hopes of winning more high volume production from this new category of their largest customer.
