Responsible for maintaining and overseeing backbone equipment necessary to provide Wide Area Network services to a 12-site WAN using a variety of WAN transports including Dark Fiber, SONET, Microwave Systems, MPLS, and leased-line transport. I also currently lead and support remote site network administrators in managing, deploying, and supporting remote LANs. In addition to WAN and remote LAN support, I currently maintain and support a 14-building 1/2 mile campus network with VoIP, physical security, video, Systems Control And Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems. This position also required the specification of structured cable plant for copper cabling, and fiber optic cabling in a campus environment. I write statements of work, evaluate blueprints and schematics for new construction and retrofits, quality control contractor installations, ensure timelines are met, finalize cable installations and ensure warranty requirements are met. Project management from a team-member, project leader, and stakeholder perspective is an important component to this current position. I also work with third party vendors and other IT staff in order to provide solutions to customers that would ordinarily be unavailable. This current position requires on-call 24x7 status, and some travel in order to update and maintain technology infrastructure.
