I am very involved with USC Speakers, the Toastmasters Club on the Sippy Downs campus of the University of the Sunshine Coast. We meet every 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights in the Seminar Room, Ground Floor of the Library and we run an intensive 5 week public speaking course for students at the start of each semester.I was a senior Science and Maths teacher with experience on two continents and two states of Australia across State, Catholic and Independent schools. Language and Literacy have always been important to me. It is not much good teaching Science if the students can't understand the language you are using to get the message across.I am currently part-way through a PhD in Science Education trying to find out what classroom teachers in years 5 to 10 in Queensland schools are doing with language when they teach science..I have been a Toastmaster for more than thrity years and I can see no end in sight.Before that I was a commissioned officer in the Army Reserve in artillery and infantry units.
