I discovered my career calling while listening to an audiobook during a long commute to work. Until this day, I worked in clerical positions for many years because I was good at it. However, I knew this line of work wasn't something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.As soon as I got home from work, I checked out free courses on coding. I immediately fell in love. I discovered that I seriously enjoy solving problems by writing code and building applications. In fact, I created a program written in Python that my former employer uses to this day.I enjoy writing code because it is a task that requires a high level of attention to detail. It takes patience and determination to not let the peskiest of bugs wear you down. It's a wonderful feeling when you finally squash that bug and see the code work as expected. This is why I've returned to school to obtain a B.S. in Computer Science.Returning to school a bit later in life has been a much more successful experience than when I was fresh out of high school. I developed a strong work ethic and discipline from working for many years. I'm also focused and motivated to grow in this industry, which is why I would be a valuable asset as a software engineering intern because I would not take the opportunity for granted.
