I am a Facilities Maintenance Manager with over 30 years of experience in the industry. For me, supervising and managing has been challenging but also very rewarding. It has allowed me to work below, beside and above excellent people. I have been fortunate to both learn from and lead those around me as we work toward providing the best experience possible for our clients. My people at work keep me motivated everyday. I am especially interested in someone's story: why they ended up working with us, what drives them, what frustrates them too. I understand that in my role I have an impact on the people who work with me. I want to do good by them.A few key skills and attributes I bring to the table:1) Relationship-building: collaborating across departments is one of the best parts of my work, as it helps flesh out how important everyone working together is to achieving even fairly basic outcomes, let alone complex projects and handling the unexpected.2) Adaptability: Being adaptable is just part of my job, whether it be figuring out how to operate during a pandemic, dealing with staff turnover, adjusting to economic forces outside of our control or a myriad of other factors. My previous and current positions have taught me that nothing stays the same and to be prepared for anything.3) Managing the training and development of hard skills in areas as diverse as Aquatic environments, Arenas, HVAC, Building controls along with a host of other related building operations. As well, I have also been coaching and developing the soft skills of conflict management, communication and problem-solving amongst my people.4) I have worked to become proficient at understanding and applying Worksafe BC, Technical Safety BC and CSA Regulations, Codes and Standards in my work. I have been able to apply a Health & Safety and compliance lens to my work in training, developing and managing staff. When I am not at work, I spend time hiking, biking and (when the bank account allows) travelling.Anything I can do that allows me to contribute to something greater, to learn something new and to establish and build relationships...I am game. I invite you to connect with me on LinkedIn if this speaks to you too...
