Adona Medical is developing novel solutions for heart failure

Tasked with evaluating novel opportunities in order to found the next Shifamed portfolio company. Shifamed has previously launched Sadra Medical, Maya Medical, Kalila Medical, Apama Medical, Nuvera Medical, Tioga Medical, Atia Vision, and Supira Medical. Position is ~0.7 FTE by design, allowing for continued collaborations with other companies.

Arrinex was acquired by Stryker in Feb. 2019. Recruited by the CEO to collaborate with senior management and help implement strategies aimed at positioning the company for sustainable market growth. Led projects to refine patient/user experience for current generation product and to help define and prioritize future generation products and applications. Together with CEO and VP of R&D, evaluated growth opportunities, invented new approaches, drafted patent applications, and collaborated with KOLs and internal team to develop and optimize novel concepts. Position ~0.7 FTE.

Efforts focused on drug-device combination products. Responsibilities include assisting with assessments of potential partners and collaboration opportunities, evaluation of key risk areas in preparation for internal and external financing of collaborative projects, and contributions to the creation of development plans and project roadmaps. Position is part-time by design to allow for continued efforts with other organizations.

An innovation and management role responsible for overseeing and cultivating strategic alliances between outside organizations and multiple collaborating divisions within Johnson & Johnson, including J&J Innovation, J&J Medical Devices, and Janssen Pharmaceutical Research and Development, with a focus on drug-device combination products. Responsible for interfacing directly with partnering organizations to provide entrepreneurial guidance and track execution such that development maintains consistent with J&J strategic goals.

The Niveus interventions helped patients during more than 10,000 treatments prior to being acquired by Stryker in 2017. Niveus Medical offers patient rehabilitation solutions focused primarily in critical care. • Led company from initial market validation and proof-of-concept stage through growth to a 16 FTE revenue-generating organization, remaining CEO through entire period of company operations• Established a culture of innovation and a rapid iteration/fail-fast approach that led to product moving from concept to US FDA 510(k) clearance in 15 months on only $1M cash burn • Closed first 6 customer accounts independently before recruiting a top team to scale the sales footprint and expand into new geographic regions • Oversaw company activities through product being deployed for > 10,000 patient treatments.

Held various consulting project leadership, investigative/due diligence, technical, and operating roles at companies in the ultrasound, cardiovascular, aesthetic, orthopedic, obstetric, and anesthesiology spaces. Below is a representative list of selected engagements: The Foundry Menlo Park, CAWas recruited to assist during the very early stages of an orthopedic project. Designed and constructed systems to rapidly test feasibility of proposed concepts and make recommendations for future development. The Foundry is a medical device incubator that has created almost 20 companies. Miramar Labs Sunnyvale, CADeveloped novel technologies used to accelerate product evaluation and quality control. Miramar Labs (acquired by Sientra) developed the MiraDry technology to address excessive underarm sweating and other conditions. Voyage Medical Campbell, CAProvided advising and technical development services while helping to guide the activities of a small team. Voyage Medical developed a cardiovascular visualization technology to guide interventional procedures.Lifewave Biomedical Los Altos, CARecruited as a subject matter expert to assist with technical and clinical due diligence efforts. Lifewave is developing radar-based technologies with a variety of healthcare applications. Siemens Medical Systems, Advanced Ultrasound Division, Issaquah, WAAided in the development of a user interface for a commercial ultrasound scanner. Responsible for the creation of a suite of simulation tools to complement the interface.
