In my role as Senior Thermal Treat Engineer at TimkenSteel, I support daily steel manufacturing operations at the Gambrinus Steel Plant in the following capacity:- Continuous Improvement Projects: I am a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and much of my day-to-day work involves leading and supporting various manufacturing process improvement efforts. I am actively involved in implementing changes aimed at improving product quality and increasing production efficiency, ultimately reducing unnecessary processing costs.- Production Analyst: Ensure the quality and on-time delivery of steel products through the Thermal Treat department on a daily basis. Contribute to department management functions as required. Active participant in internal and external quality, safety, and environmental audits.- Fill-in shift supervisor: Fully trained Thermal Treatment production supervisor. Responsible for managing a crew of approximately 14 associates across five thermal treatment facilities as needed. Supervise an average of 50 shifts per year.- Equipment Upgrades and Capital Projects: Work with interdisciplinary engineering teams to design, plan, and implement upgrades to steel processing equipment. Examples of equipment upgrades include a redesign and reconfiguration of a mechanical material handling table, installation of a 5-ton overhead crane, specialized lifting devices and various safety-driven equipment modifications.- Document Controller: Responsible for managing changes and updates to and maintaining the accuracy of the department’s 81 operating standards and 84 on-the-job training programs. - Advanced Quench-and-Temper Facility: Support the installation and planned startup of a new $40 million automated continuous heat treatment line.Previously Engineer - Thermal Treat from 01/2015-01/2018.

As an intern at Timken, I contributed to the development and testing of precision gauging and evaluation equipment for various types of Timken bearing rollers. My primary project consisted of the design of an automated, high-precision optical size gauge for bearing rollers to be used in a production facility. The successful use of automated optical gauging equipment as a replacement for existing methods could eliminate over $600,000 in costs of custom tooling and gauging masters.

Blade Diagnostics Corporation is a Pittsburgh-based United States Air Force contractor specializing in inspection equipment for bladed rotors in aircraft engines. As an intern I contributed to the design, testing, analysis, and fabrication of a vibrational testing system for aircraft engine blades. This inspection system is being developed as an effort to combat the destructive effects of high cycle fatigue due to excessive vibration, a leading cause of engine failure in fighter jets.

I served as an undergraduate teaching assistant for Numerical Methods with Matlab (Mechanical Engineering 24-311) for the Fall 2012 semester. In addition to helping students during occasionally requested 1-on-1 appointments and email consultation, I held office hours and administered programming labs twice per week to assist students with their assignments.

My responsibilities for this internship consisted primarily of working with testing and evaluation systems and equipment for DC motors, linear actuators, and gearing to be used in RE2 robotic prototypes.

My main duties for this internship related to the design, development, and testing of a robotic Stand-Alone Pipe Bomb End Cap Remover (SAPBER). The main purpose for developing SAPBER is for bomb squads and law enforcement officials who wish to safely dispose of pipe bombs while being able to collect contents for analysis. In addition to designing the electronics enclosure and performing extensive tests and analysis for wear, structural rigidity, and factors affecting the time required to cut a pipe bomb, I designed a multi-functional cart that significantly increased the portability of the 140-pound robot. This cart allowed SAPBER to be easily towed by an unmanned ground vehicle into the field, pulled by a technician (similar to a hand truck), and stored effectively in a van.This device is especially useful not only for the safety of bomb squad technicians but also for its role in preserving evidence and forensic science.
