One to two times a semester I present to the construction management program students on the origin and importance of building codes and how they become law in Wisconsin, the role of the code official, and situational awareness.

Manage and provide leadership to inspectors and administrative staff in the inspection of residential, commercial and industrial structures in compliance with State Building Requirements and City Ordinances. Review and approve building plans and conducts on-site inspections. Oversee code enforcement and zoning inspections. Meet with development professionals, elected officials and the public.

I work as a department director with staff of two full time and three part time inspectors. I conduct commercial and residential plan review, residential zoning review, permit issuance, and general ordinance code enforcement, as well as conduct inspections in support of permits and complaints. Our department also collects data and photos of new construction for the City Assessor. In addition, I am responsible for compiling data and status reports for various agencies, staff and common council. I also maintain the department’s permit software as well as the city hall voip phone system.

I was responsible for performing some commercial and most residential plan review, residential zoning review, permit issuance, and general ordinance code enforcement, as well as conducting inspections in support of permits and complaints. I worked closely with department director in overseeing staff of four full time and two part time employees, and acted as the director in his absence.
