Based in the Conway Institute for Biomolecular and Biomedical Research I worked on the development and validation of a multiplex MRM MS assay for the detection of serum proteins relevant to prostate cancer. The work was in collaboration with a number of research groups from around the world and focuses mainly on the early stage stratification of prostate cancer patients to better align them with the most suitable treatment options post diagnosis.

I started in the University of Reading under the joint supervision of Prof Cramer (University of Reading) and Mr Peter Malone (Harold Hopkins Department of Urology, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Hospital) in Oct 2009. The remit of the research study is “Mass spectrometry based biomarker discovery in men’s cancer”. The two main areas of research focus is exploration of detection methods for differentiating prostate cancer from other non-malignant diseases/infections that improve upon current tests using prostate specific antigen levels in the blood as an indicator. I am also employing mass spectrometry imaging techniques to visualise protein distribution across normal and malignant tissue removed from men diagnosed with penile cancer.As part of my PhD I have managed three project from initial study design to Ethics approval, working with Research and Development departments in Royal Berkshire Hospital and University College Hospital London for site trail approval. The trials are currently on-going with patient recruitment, data management.I have also completed a GCP training course.
