Founded in 2009, The Love Trust are a South African not-for-profit organisation that deliver excellent quality Christian education and social care to vulnerable children.I had been requested by Erik van den Top, their head of governance and strategy, to come up with a way to best present their data in the most intuitive way to show how effectively funds donated to the charity are being spent on educating & nourishing underprivileged children. My work involved taking the data available, and presenting that data in graphs that best convey what had been achieved with the funds, and also how much things have improved over the years. This data was then used in a report given to donors to hopefully raise more funds for their great work

e4 is a technology company specialising in digitalisation of authentication processes, as well as other diversified tasks throughout the group.In collaboration with the group financial manager we had created a financial model that would allow multiple trial balances for entities in the group to be consolidated. This model automatically pulled the trial balances from group companies into a consolidated sheet, allowed users to categorise accounts at the different entities using a universal key, pass adjusting journal entries and then automatically consolidate them into a single master trial balance. This model alleviated a great deal of manual work and potential for errors by performing these tasks automatically

The client required us to perform spreadsheet remediation and reworking. They wanted to have spreadsheets that were more automated and less error prone.We interviewed stakeholders and evaluated the models to look for areas that could be improved to better meet the objectives for which they were required.Where necessary we modified formulas to make them more robust, easier to understand and also created macros that automated the work required. Before completing this assignment we also educated client employees as to the logic of the formulas so they would be able to operate and modify the models without being completely dependent on ourselves.

Filling in as the temporary financial manager for Dukathole Brickwords which is a brick and tile manufacturing company located in Alliwal North in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.During my time at Dukathole, in addition to performing generic duties required from the FM, I created the following value added models with the stated purpose as follows:A Remittance model to do the matching of the client remittances received to the GL entries, and determining what had not been paid, and also showing those items on the remittance that hadn't been correctly allocated. A model that electronically matched the amounts invoiced to debtors, with payments received into the bank account. This would pick up possible under-payments by debtors, or payments not correctly allocated to debtors.A model that assisted with the daily debtors reconciliation that was required for debtor secured financing. This model would pull all the movements in debtors balances, and automatically allocate them to the specific debtors accounts. It would then compare the calculated debtors balance with the actual debtors balance as per the latest age analysis. In the past, when the debtors recon didn't balance, it would be quite an onerous and time consuming challenge to find which debtor movement was missing or incorrect.A profitability model that would automatically generate an income statement by categorising items from the trial balance with minimal human intervention (after the initial setup and ongoing maintenance).A Daily Efficiency Report model which generated a plant efficiency report that showed plant efficiencies relative to one another and reflects these efficiencies in graphs. This model would allow slicing and dicing of the info to assist in the decision making process.

The users could slice the data from a high level down to a completely granular level allowing in depth analysis.

Worked with Ingrid Ravenscroft at Mercantile Bank designing a system that would allow the implementation of IDEA in order to conglomerate and analyse employee access rights to multiple systems, and display the results in an easily understandable and intuitive format. This would allow the bank to ascertain if access rights are up to date and relevant given the role of the employees, and also ensure there was sufficient segregation of duties

This assignment required interviewing a mine manager and accounting staff, and based on their input reclassifying general ledger transactions for a mine going back a few years.Came up with a technique to graph general ledger accounts in order to determine if movements followed a logical pattern given the nature of the account. Outliers were found with much greater ease utilising this technique.

An RFP had been sent to various vendors requesting pricing if SB were to outsouce their entire cash function to them.The initial RFP sent to vendors was intentionally kept very un-prescriptive with regards to structure and costings of submissions in order to encourage vendor creativity. As a direct result of this the submissions from the vendors had used completely different methodologies and methods of costing. This made them almost impossible to compare objectively, and it's for that reason the following approach was adopted:- Ascertain best potential output to make submissions easily comparable- Understand each vendor submission and convert all information to a uniform standard - Quantify qualitative vendor information and recommend weightings for different areas of information in order to assist in decision making- Make recommendations based on results of analysisWe produced value-added output in the form of:- Created a methodology and costing model to standardise vendor submissions and make them comparable- Assisted in the interpretation of qualitative and quantitative information- Made recommendations to management based on the findingsIn addition to the above we also created a model that mapped cashflow on a geographical basis that assisted in determining the extent to which regional cash outflow was matched by inflow

BP's equity partner Masana requested we engage with fuel distribution companies in order to look at outsourcing fuel distribution throughout Southern Africa.We drafted the RFP, coordinated the vendors responses, standardized the submissions and analysed the results of the RFP and advised management.In order to make the submission comparable, a model was created that standardised inconsistent data from various vendors.The findings were summarised on a heat map according to different weighted criteria and were then presented to management along with a recommendation

We had been requested by Standard Bank to assist them in preparing for compliance with the incoming PoPi Act.We were involved in assessing what the current level of compliance was across the different areas of the bank. Based on our findings requirements were then drafted indicating what changes would need to be implemented.This project required extensive interaction with the different departments of the bank to determine what changes were required for future compliance, but my role was largely to create systems whereby compliance could be captured, assessed and progress tracked

This project involved designing and building of the automated Asset Allocation Model that manages over R100 billion of Stanlib assets. This model would allow the user to assess the optimal level of investment in different classes of assets for all the portfolios in the group. At the same time the model ensured compliance with different regulatory requirements applying to the assets in each portfolio. This model was designed with an easy to use graphical user interfaces and in compliance with UDAR standards (User Defined Application of Risk)It also required redesigning and building the Ranking of Global Stanlib Investments model. This model would automatically gather the latest market information on all existing and potential Stanlib investments and allow the user to rank these investments relative to one another according to criteria selected. This model was also designed to be UDAR compliant (Please note UDAR is the standard to ensure Excel models are well designed, thereby reducing the likelihood of errors creeping in whilst at the same time ensuring formulas are transparent and understandable)

This was my first project at BP and required me to design a reporting model in order to allow the easy tracking and updating of capex projects in progress.The model was designed to be intuitive and allowed under-performing projects to be quickly identified. This information was then presented to management through an easy to understand and dynamic graphic user interface, where they could drill down into exactly what they needed.
