Seasoned attorney uniquely positioned to lead pro-growth legal, compliance, governance, and risk-mitigation programs. Prior diplomatic service and work-abroad experience in Asia and Europe (along with an additional European law degree) enable safe navigation of the complex global marketplace. I actively partner with other departments to chart a path to success. My value proposition includes:IN-HOUSE LEGAL. As in-house counsel, I have effectively minimized litigation risks and consistently closed out cases, while reducing outside spend by over 50%. Skill sets: strategic planning, budget development and tracking, proactive legal and regulatory monitoring, representation in meetings with government officials, and executive presentations.LAW & REGULATORY. Practice areas include corporate, competition, consumer, trade, contract, and EU law, and I have supported sensitive employment/labor-law cases. I also served as the contact person for M&A inquiries from the European Commission.COMPLIANCE. I have both overseen continuous improvement for legacy frameworks and built compliance systems from scratch. Deliverables: creation of comprehensive programs, implementation of policies and procedures (P&P), adoption of ERP and CRM systems and third-party tools, institution of social listening, and development of trainings. I have led highly sensitive investigations and supported complex audits.CONTRACTS & PROCUREMENT. Experience with drafting and negotiation includes five years of service as Contracts Officer with the world’s largest regional diplomatic organization, with responsibility for all commercial contracts (supply agreements, insurance, leases, travel, the vehicle fleet, etc.) having a total annual value exceeding $75 million. Related credentials include advanced procurement certification.RISK MITIGATION. I have successfully countered extraordinary legal, financial, political, and reputational threats, and led crisis planning and response. Achievements include the incident-free transportation and neutralization of 16,000 metric tonnes of a highly corrosive, toxic substance that posed a catastrophic threat to human life and the environment. Having spent considerable time in zones of conflict and lived through foreign revolution and war, I can speak about force majeure from personal experience. LEADERSHIP. I have successfully formed, upskilled, and managed high-performance global legal and compliance teams based in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the US. Stakeholder management comes easily due to my time in diplomacy.

Director Of Global ComplianceThe Body Shop Aug 2021 - Mar 2023London, England, GbIn 2021, I answered the call to institutionalize compliance for TBSAH. The comprehensive framework my team and I put in place was both outward- and inward-facing. Externally, it initially covered 40,000 independent distributors in the UK, Australia, and the US, and was scalable for market expansion. Internally, it ensured that TBSAH met both legal requirements and commitments to Direct Sales Associations (DSAs). Achievements include: compliance support – particularly know your customer (KYC), anti-money laundering (AML), and GDPR/data privacy requirements – for Exigo, a £22 million CRM launch, along with overhaul of the entire suite of contractual documents for alignment with Exigo and general fitness for purpose; implementation of a social listening program that monitored income/lifestyle claims, product claims, and comparative advertisements; adoption of a RACI/escalation procedure; creation of processes to ensure consistent, fair resolution of investigations across markets; membership in the US DSA; and a 100% closure rate of complaints filed with DSAs. -
