Our family moved to Boulder, CO in 2015 where I joined the Apex Emergency Medicine Group which was acquired in 2017 by US Acute Care Solutions (USACS). I serve as an Emergency Medicine physician in the Denver metro area where I practice in a variety of clinical settings, including underserved, upper- and middle-class catchment areas; level one trauma centers; and urgent care/primary care environments.

Health Scholars is an enterprise software company providing voice driven virtual reality simulation trainings and actionable performance metrics to healthcare systems at scale. I founded the company with the mission to improve lives through smarter healthcare workforce preparedness. After raising $17 million in venture funding, I scaled and oversaw Product, Innovation & Research, Business Development and Professional Society Partnerships (i.e American Academy of Pediatrics, American Heart Association, Association of periOperative Registered Nurses). I provided innovation input to product design and roadmap, scaled the product/ development organization to four cross-functional teams, implementedaccurate large effort estimation dev processes and developed the operational workflows between the product and commercial sides of our organization. I also wrote our platform’s original cloud-based back-end code, architected our voice recognition system and user performance data analytics. At the time of my departure, the company had 51 employees, two-thirds of which I oversaw.

NYIAHP is based out of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and is dedicated to the emergency preparedness of its member facilities and their surrounding neighborhoods. The organization is partnered with New York City Department of Health (NYDOH) and is responsible for some of the largest civilian disaster drills in the country. I developed and implemented the cloud-based software system, Remote Disaster Drill and Analysis Tool (RDDAT), enabling geographically remote drills, assessment, and prescriptive analytics regarding emergency readiness for hospitals and long-term care facilities using virtual drill scenarios. The system was first implemented to drill and assess preparedness of the nine receiving hospitals in Cape Town, South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Games and was subsequently employed by New York City Department of Health. My responsibilities included product strategy & innovation, implementation, and emergency preparedness research.

The ALRC is a campus wide center for immersive and simulation-based learning, serving students, residents, fellows, and healthcare professionals at SUNY Downstate’s: College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Health-Related Professions, the University Hospital of Brooklyn, and regional affiliate organizations. I oversaw operations, development and implementation of high-fidelity robotic simulation training programs, clinical quality improvement, and technical innovations. This large-scale training center was the evolution of my work developing and directing an advanced simulation center within SUNY Downstate’s department of Emergency Medicine. My role primarily oriented around operations and managing clinical instructors.

The Center for Advanced Learning was a division of SUNY Downstate’s Department of Emergency Medicine and leveraged high-fidelity robotic simulation training to improve emergency clinical care. I developed the software management system, training programs, implemented operational infrastructure and sustainable revenue. During my tenure, I expanded the organization’s training personnel to extend educational programs across a wide array of healthcare specialties and disciplines. The training center evolved into SUNY Downstate’s campus wide Center for Advanced Learning, enabling simulation training to the SUNY Downstate campus and affiliate organizations.

SimCore was the precursor health technology company to Health Scholars. SimCore provided cloud-based software solutions for high fidelity robotic clinical simulation training and quality improvement. I developed a software platform as an academic to streamline clinical simulation training,establish/disseminate best practices and better identify workforce readiness gaps against which to apply targeted training and surveillance tools to monitor improvement. After successful academic implementations, I raised seed funding to build SimCore and commercialized the platform. I sold the company at a 10X valuation to OSF Healthcare and an associated syndicate investor group to form its successor, Health Scholars. SimCore was the only clinical education company partnered with the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and federally listed as an AHRQ certified Patient Safety Organization, providing actionable metrics for performance improvement.

I founded and directed the simulation center at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, funded by a patient safety-oriented annuity program that I developed in partnership with the health systems’ medical liability insurer, Hospital Insurance Company (now The Doctors Company). This state-of-the-art simulation center leverages high fidelity robotic mannequin systems, task trainers and virtual reality devices to thousands of regional healthcare staff with a mission to close safety gaps, foster professional excellence, and reduce clinical errors. In addition to running operations, I oversaw the development and implementation of the center’s training programs, quality improvement initiatives, research, and technical innovations.

Evaluation Technologies provided cloud-based software solutions for assessing and tracking clinical competencies of undergraduate and graduate healthcare personnel. Additionally, the company provided software solutions to the New York City Department of Health for deploying city-wide emergency preparedness drills and for tracking the state of emergency readiness across New York City’s healthcare systems and emergency services. Portions of the software platform were integrated into NYIAHP’s emergency preparedness software services.

Appointed by the Dean for the College of Medicine, the committee is charged with recommending and integrating novel pedagogical modalities into the medical student curriculum. I served as an expert in the field of Clinical Simulation and Educational Technology Solutions.
