As the Submarine Training & Systems Centre (STSC) Platform Systems Training Equipment (PSTE) Manager I am responsible to ensure the simulators & training rigs are available to meet the Training Authority - Submarines (TA-SM) requirements.The Platform Systems Training Equipment comprises of a combination of submarine equipment, training simulators and a motion simulator with a total valued of $90,000,000. In my last position in the RAN was as the Propulsion Systems Manager on HMAS Darwin, for the last three years of my RAN service. In that position I was responsible for the propulsion control systems of 2 x LM2500 gas turbines and the driving train (including variable control pitch propeller), along with the auxiliary systems of 4 x 1 MW diesel generators and auxiliary equipment. My secondary position on board Darwin was as the Engineering Training Senior Sailor, responsible for on board assessment of engineering skills.
Senior Electrical / Mechanical Mechanic
I spent ten years with the RN, finishing as a Leading Engineering Mechanic (Electrical). In my last position within the RN I was employed, on HMS INVINCIBLE where I was worked on the engine control system (four, Rolls Royce Olympus gas turbines) and auxiliary equipment (eight, 1.5 mega watt generators). During my time on Invincible I was instrumental in the ship completing contractor's sea trial along with commissioning trials, before discharging from the RN in 1981, in order that I could transfer to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
