As a student of the Iron Range Engineering - Bell Program, the Student Engineers were assigned industry client companies that were gracious enough to offer us project work. The scope of my primary project was to design a wireless system to gather and store critical measurements of industrial machinery. This project involved non-disclosure agreements, public speaking, presentation, research, circuit analysis, technical writing, and Structured Text programming. I was Project Manager and was recognized by faculty for my teamwork. My team and I were all recognized twice for our research documentation, ability to effectively rotate team members, and the quality of our monthly Design Reviews. Our industry client was pleased enough with our results to offer us the opportunity to continue working on the project after the semester finished.Some of my specific work includes:- Creating Gantt Charts with a team- Holding myself and teammates accountable- Quick, daily update meetings and 1-hour monthly design reviews- Researching current solutions on the market- Researching wireless signal types and protocols- Approaching programming from a conceptual stanpoint- Learning to understand Structured Text programming One of the most valuable lessons our team learned from this project is that things don't always go according to plan. As obstacles come up, we would acknowledge the current status of the project, and adjust the plan accordingly. We approached the project from an objective standpoint, and it allowed us to be flexible and to provide real value to the client.

This was to prepare us for having to teach others and adapt to new projects. I was moved onto a client project for Minnesota Power focused on integrating a Polisher for a power generation Rankine Cycle into a second Rankine Cycle. The Polisher filters out contaminants from the working fluid. For my primary contribution, I obtained raw data on a csv from the client pertaining to flow and pressure of the systems. Then I put the data into spreadsheets and performed extensive logical operations on a series of ones and zeroes to calculate many statistics about the systems. I then had to teach the other team members about the contents of those tables so that they could carry on without me. Even for a short duration, I have a dedication to quality results that can be picked up where I left off.
