1. I expect each of you will learn something new in this class, whether you’re a novice or a skilled researcher. a. If you’re new to the world of computers and the Internet, I expect you to ask any and all questions you need to ask in order to understand the class assignments and projects. No questions are too small or too silly. I like questions and I am always willing to answer them. b. I expect you to share what you know at appropriate times. Your knowledge will benefit the other students, which will only enhance their experience—and yours!2. I do not want to waste your time. We will cover a variety of topics over the course of the term. If you already have specific skills, and can demonstrate them to my satisfaction, you will be released early from that class. That will allow ample class time for the other students to learn and/or review those particular skills. 3. I expect you to ask for more if a subject is interesting to you. I will cover all the required topics in the course, but I hope that you will become passionate enough about certain aspects of research to ask for more detail. 4. I believe that learning and fun go hand in hand. To that end, I will attempt to make the assignments both meaningful and entertaining.Information Processing By the end of this course you will be able to gather information from a variety of sources, evaluate the information, incorporate the findings into a research paper, and document the sources.Systems Thinking By the end of this course you will know how to properly frame a research question. You will also learn how to narrow a topic to one that interests you yet still meets the requirements of the assignment.
