About Brian Harkin
I am a Biomedical Engineering Postgraduate completing a LifETIME CDT PhD Fellowship at the University of Galway.My research involves developing breast cancer models to uncover the governing factors of resistance to immune cell infiltration, ultimately guiding personalised healthcare frameworks for optimising immunotherapies.Recently, γδ T cells has shown the ability to induce both a pro- and anti-tumour response depending on the cellular subset. These subsets have the potential to kill cancerous cells and support immunotherapy drugs once the biophysical processes governing tumour growth and immune cell infiltration are uncovered.These models will be developed to gain a new understanding of the mechanobiological interactions underlying neoplasia and immune cell mechanics.The project is funded by SFI through the LifETIME CDT Fellowship Program and is supervised by Dr. Eoin McEvoy and co-supervised by Prof. Laoise McNamara.
