Brian Hew is a Researcher at University of Hawaii at Manoa. He possess expertise in biotechnology, cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology, assay development and 11 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "I have known Brian since he worked in my laboratory as a Meiji Scholar, a prestigious award that includes a stipend for an undergraduate student to work in a laboratory at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center. A few months later, I hired him as a technician and was later able to convince him to go to graduate school to obtain his Ph.D. in my laboratory. Brian is intelligent and hard working. In addition, he has “excellent hands”, meaning that he is able to go into the lab and get procedures to work, and perform assays with consistent results. I found that, when I absolutely needed reliable results, Brian was my “go to” person, as he was always able to produce. In addition, Brian is able to use and often repair complex equipment. All of the above makes him an asset to any laboratory. During his time in my laboratory, Brian was able to learn a great deal about the complement system, on which he was working, and was able to use this knowledge to design and interpret experiments. He also gained expertise in cell culture, molecular biology, recombinant protein production and purification. He works well with others in the laboratory, and was able to help mentor several undergraduate students and technicians. Finally, he was always pleasant to be around, and got along well with his peers, other faculty, and people throughout the department. I believe the fact that I kept asking Brian to come back to work in my laboratory sums up my appreciation of his abilities, and I would not hesitate to hire him again, given the chance."
