About Brian Emerson

Outside of my family, I have two passions in my life: building great software products and rock climbing (which is why I now live in beautiful Colorado). I have realized over the last 18 years building enterprise management solutions that the two passions actually go hand-in-hand. Both require puzzle solving, gut decisions, mental focus, team play and being able to balance short term decisions with long term goals/outcomes. All of these things need to come together to get up a rock climb at your limit and they are also required to deliver great products that people like to use. In my professional career, I have been blessed with the opportunity to build multiple products from the ground up. Often in product management you find yourself taking over a product that already exists and trying to iterate on new versions. In my case, I have built and released 5 net new enterprise management products to market covering cloud management, application release automation, lifecycle/orchestration, virtualization & analytics. The cool part has been creating something from nothing and figuring out all the pieces that need to come together, from solid code to thoughtful use cases to creating and enabling a value chain to successfully position, market, sell, and service products with quality. What I have been most proud of over my career is building great teams and establishing relationships based on commitment and just trusting each other to get stuff done, fill in gaps when needed and being ready to play any role in the team. At the end of the day, it's all about delivering the best experience for people who pay good money to use the stuff we build.
