After an array of careers and experience in public safety and healthcare, I’ve planted my roots in the field of community corrections. My philosophy includes the belief that people are capable of changing, even when the circumstances may appear to be hopeless. In order for change to occur there must first be a desire to change. Often times that desire is triggered by negative consequences, but on occasion it can happen spontaneously. In either case, positive support, coaching, and reinforcement from others is necessary to keep the momentum towards change in the foresight.My role and responsibility as a probation officer is to hold my clients accountable, but also to work with them to identify strengths that help leverage their ability to make positive changes for themselves, their families, and their communities. As the field of probation and corrections evolves in the present day world, it’s essential that we treat everyone with respect, compassion, and dignity, regardless of their past transgressions.
