National Manager Technology

St Louis, Missouri, Us

As a National Manager of Technology at Advantage Solutions, my role was to work effectively as a Player / Coach where I was responsible for building my team, and delivering on the technical solutions needed in the database and BI.Managing a small team of database engineers, my job was to build a sense of collaboration and teamwork - to understand day-to-day roles and responsibilities, challenges, and opportunities where leadership was needed to help advance the vision of the larger Retail Technology team. I defined coding standards, ticketing and documentation standards, and ensured the team cross-trained others, ensuring we were prepared to tackle issues as needed. Soon after establishing the database team, I was asked to step in and lead the BI team which doubled my team size and brought new challenges. In addition to leadership or coaching responsibilities, I was also a technical contributor - I meet with internal users, product managers, and front-end application development teams and implemented new database designs and database structures, procedures, functions and views to meet the needs of new or existing custom applications. I built ETL pipelines, SSRS reporting, tuned performance issues and helped bring stability to nightly data processing loads.I redesigned the back-end data structure of a popular custom application for a $65MM a year client establishing a proper, normalized database design that was driven by a set of configuration tables resulting in a faster and more efficient yearly set up, while still remaining flexible for our client's yearly changes. This same database would later expand to support new application needs by Retail teams.Got involved directly with a major client to understand their reporting needs and challenges, established trust and a strong partnership with weekly meetings, and lead a very successful BI project that ultimately grew our clients business and provided real analytics to the work Advantage was providing.
