Brian has worked for over 30 years in local environmental management and community engagement, starting out as a Community Architect, Projects Officer and Prince of Wales' Awards Secretary for The Prince of Wales' Committee in Wales. He was also a volunteer case worker dealing with disadvantaged young people for the Royal Jubilee & Prince's Trusts in North Wales and West Yorkshire.A series of regional and other senior management roles and directorships with environmental charities in England & Wales followed in the 1980s, focusing on project development and publicity, research & development, monitoring, management and innovation.For most of the 1990s Brian directed a successful local environmental consultancy that operated throughout the UK, Europe and in North America, with notable and extensive projects in London and other Core UK Cities, Malta, Madrid and Barcelona.2000 - 2011 saw him acting as advisor to the UK government on policy, legislation and performance standards relating to the Local Environment, Quality of Life and the economic impacts that poor standards can have on places and the different communities that depend upon them. During this time he was also expert advisor on durable, functional and maintainable highway design for 'Manual For Streets 2' (by the Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation and Department for Transport).Brian, has brought this knowledge together in Sustaining Places, which not only advises on all aspects of local environmental management and contracting, but importantly on what makes every place and the people and organisations associated with it, unique. In doing so, each locality and its communities can be developed in ways that are truly sustainable: by being particular to their circumstances; overcoming or minimising their disadvantages; and maximising their different potentials.
