Research AssistantUniversity Of Michigan College Of Engineering Jan 2016 - May 2016Ann Arbor, Mi, UsI conducted research on device motion design for consumer experience in automotive applications. Many products include moving objects the user interacts with that have a significant impact on their emotional response to that product. The project explored the connection between motion and emotion, and the idea of how to design a motion trajectory that elicits the desired user emotion. Towards this, we created a test fixture where a microcontroller commands a stepper motor to open a car dashboard storage compartment door with a specified velocity trajectory. A series of different opening motions are presented to survey participants and preference data is collected. My duties included updating and modifying code, conducting surveys, and collecting and analyzing data. After the data was analyzed we then will present the best velocity profile according to what the consumer's liked. -
