Associate Chemist
CurrentMain Job Duties:• Performs research and development related to synthesis and purification of organosilicon compounds, salts and additives. Makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results. Prepares technical reports, summaries, experimental protocols, and quantitative analyses.• Responsible for chemical inventory management, including keeping track of in-house quantities of commonly used reagents and reading SDS and handling/storing chemicals appropriately• Contributes to synthesis development and process improvement.• Conducts characterization of solvents and electrolytes using chemical and instrumental methods (NMR, etc).Key Accomplishments:• Developed a method to characterize electrolyte decomposition using GC and NMR analysis• Enhanced the company’s existing ICP-AES method for anode-side metals dissolution analysis to improve statistical validity and accuracy• Synthesized ~20 (and growing!) novel compounds that the company had identified as critical to IP, commerical/industrial, or fundamental knowledge purposes• Performed validation and method development for in-house GC QC capabilities. Required identification and calibration of >10 identified impurities.• Led installation and operation of a new bomb reactor for high pressure (up to ~200 psi) and high temperature (up to 250 C) chemical synthesis. Trained new users on safe and effective operation.
