As Sustainability Director at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, I oversee reporting of GHG emissions and AASHE STARS, contribute to building capacity to infuse sustainability in the curriculum, and support student campus greening efforts. I led the efforts to write a sustainability plan, revamp recycling, and bring to market methane destruction credits from a biodigester.Before UWO:• Director, Center for Rural Sustainable Development at U Maine-Fort Kent. Led projects with over $3 million in grants from the USDA and the Maine Dept of Conservation for biomass heating, and from NSF/EPSCoR for biomass research. The biomass heating grants allowed UMFK and the neighboring K-12 schools to replace fuel oil boilers with biomass boilers.• Sustainability Manager at UC Riverside. Initiated/managed campus greening efforts & secured $355,000 in grants for recycling and student training for campus food systems.• UW Stevens Point: Research Associate, Led the Global Sustainable Communities Network, Managed the International Student Ambassador Program, and chaired the University Sustainability Committee.• Stetson University: Professor of Environmental Science, Geography & Latin American Studies.Interests focus on community & campus sustainability, food plant diversity, and Latin America.Previously worked on capacity building for sustainable development in Guatemala, Mexico and Peru and campus sustainability. Writing includes a chapter on sustainable landscaping in The Green Campus: Meeting the Challenge of Environmental Sustainability.I served as a Fulbright Fellow in Amazonian Brazil and an Organization of American States Scholar in Ecuador. During the past 2 decades, I have spent almost 5 years in Latin America.
