Greater Pittsburgh Area

In addition to supervising a professional in another district, I was charged with growing the Venturing program in the entire Council, which encompasses the majority of South Western Pennsylvania, and comprised of twelve Districts. Venturing is the newer, co-educational high adventure program of the Boy Scouts. In this position, requirements are setting up a fundraising plan, organizing a committee of volunteers, training the committee, and educating fellow professionals on growth opportunities in their respective districts. Establishing public speaking opportunities, and meeting community organizations is key to making myself, and Venturing visible throughout the area. Also, setting up displays and demonstrations at high schools and large events in the attempt to grow membership is vitally important for success.

Greater Pittsburgh Area

Reporting to a Field Director, the responsibilities of growing the Scouting program in this District were mine, and the District Executive I was training. Additional responsibilities also come with this position. Training all of the new Executives in all aspects of being a successful professional in this career was part of my job. Also, under my leadership, we developed and established the first ever special needs district in the Greater Pittsburgh Council, complete with a trained professional, and committee.

Greater Pittsburgh Area

Under supervision of a District Director, this position is responsible for maintaining and growing the Scouting program in a geographical area. Fundraising, membership, training and programs all need to be supported through development of an extensive volunteer staff. In this senior position, more of the duties directly involved with growing the program fell on my shoulders. Seeking out public speaking opportunities, and meeting community leaders begin to take more focus.
