“I have a very deep calling to be an educator, and everything I have done in my life and career has been done through that lens.On the athletic side, I am a student and deep believer in the more recent body of knowledge and research associated with long-term athlete development. Long-term athlete development is the ultimate win-win and the right thing to do if you want to raise healthy human beings through sport. It provides a roadmap for optimal results in both participation and performance. Coupling that with academics, I am always emphasizing that both teachers and coaches are educators, and all student-athlete experiences are part of the learning process. My ambition is to create great opportunities for my family, my friends, my colleagues, and as many student-athletes as possible to help them succeed in both sport and life.”Brian’s family has deep roots on the West Coast as well as various mountain towns in the west, especially Crested Butte, CO. His wife Karin is a professor of theatre with degrees from U.C. Berkeley, Northwestern, and the University of Washington. His stepdaughter was a talented ski racer in Colorado and now lives near Eugene, Oregon. His second daughter is an aspiring musician and attends Lane Community College in Eugene, OR. His youngest daughter attends Truckee High School.
