Vincent Van Gogh said, “If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” One of the greatest painters of all time is known for the Mona Lisa. In order to become the greatest within your industry one must put aside self-drought, fears, and the opinions of others. Not an easy task, but when you choose to fill your mind with positive reinforcement and surround yourself with positive people the sound of defeat will be silenced. One day while working for AZ Patio Heaters company I met a sweet lady named Jazmin. I couldn’t understand how she would always be so positive even in the worst of circumstances. One day she said, "Brain, you are way smarter than you think or give yourself credit. Honestly, Brian, I feel you have outgrown your current job duties." At the time she may not have thought what she said mattered, but in that moment, I realized I was made for more.I’ve been able to take what Jazmin said about playing small and apply it to becoming a key industry leader within the shipping and supply chain industry. I needed to think bigger, hone my strengths, and showcase my brilliance. You see the key component to being efficient and effective as a leader is to recognize that not everything is going to go as planned especially when implementing new processes and procedures. Individuals may not pick up a task or strategy as quickly as you. When you present something new to your peers it takes them time to be able to implement a new system or process and the best way to get your team to stay on task is to remain positive. If you have a negative outlook, that energy will trickle down to your team and they will not perform at maximum capacity. It might sound cliche, but have you ever had a boss, leader, co-worker, or peer talk down to you? Make you feel like you were worthless? I’m sure we can all think of someone or a situation where we felt made to feel like we weren’t giving our best. When put into situations where others make us feel like we aren’t good enough makes us not want to even try at all let alone want to even show up to the job. As a professional seeking my next career as a shipping and logistics professional, my goal is to lead with a positive attitude while being able to understand the full spectrum of supply chain management. My goal is to streamline better processes and procedures to effectively communicate better between all departments. I welcome the opportunity to connect and see how I can help your company's supply chain.
