Current engineering group did not have the resources or structure to meet this demand, was not incompliance with corporate QHSE policy, had no formal cost of goods sold tracking and were unable to produce equipment that worked when deliveredAction: Developed business strategy focused on establishing engineering document control, defined process and procedures, adding additional resources, improving product design and usability, a quality process and standard, employee training and customer service support systemResults:• Brought group in compliance with Schlumberger QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety and environment) standards and local OSHA (occupational safety and health administration) requirements• New internal quality system improved product quality and decreased delivery failure rate from a 90% to less than 10%• Implemented MRP (material resource planning) system to track materials, direct labor and inventory• Established document control, revision control and drawing package standards• Started the process of implementing ISO 9001 • Completed lean 5S project in manufacturing area that reduced project lead time, direct labor and value of inventory on hand• Increased revenue 700% and improved operating margin from 10% to 50%• Redesigned primary products to improve usability, reliability, reduce learning curve and consistency of data produced.
