I have several years of experience with SQL Server and am highly proficient in writing data retrieval queries from the most simple to fairly complex for analysis, customer acquisition and management or reporting. I have worked to improve SQL performance using the built-in DMVs and Sentry One’s monitoring services. I excel in searching out long neglected issues and getting them fixed; quickly and accurately. I also have several years of experience with SSIS and SSRS. Figuring out what a system is actually doing, and making it better, or fixing it to be in line with what the customer actually wants is a great passion of mine.

Senior Data EngineerSouthern New Hampshire University Apr 2022 - PresentManchester, Nh, Us• Created or modified ETL pipelines in Azure Data Factory (ADF) for the Enterprise Data Warehouse team.• Performance tuned poor performing SQL stored procedures to require fewer reads and less execution time, speeding up ETL load times.• Trained team members on SQL Server functionality, best practices and gave performance tips and development guidance.• Introduced using SQL Server Change Tracking (CT) to help with incremental loads and greatly improve checks for deleted source data.• Lead team efforts for a major university wide systems change over. This involved meeting with other teams, figuring out the work to be done, identifying dependencies, and developing and refining the team’s cutover process. -
Etl DeveloperDairy Farmers Of America Mar 2021 - Apr 2022Kansas City, Ks, UsCreated or modified ETL pipelines in Azure Data Factory (ADF). Performance tuned poor performing SQL stored procedures. Improved nightly ETL processing to be more reliable and performant. Worked with server team to improve database setup and performance. Added alerting on job outcomes, and added High Availability to Integration Runtimes and Data Gateways for Power BI and Azure Analysis Services data movement. -
Data EngineerEpiq Nov 2019 - Mar 2021New York, New York, Us• Identified and quantified a major avenue for expense reduction. AACER relies on getting federal court data at a nominal fee. In an effort to reduce this cost, discovered an expenditure segment that fully accounted for a quarter of the annual expense, and then helped demonstrate that it was not at all cost efficient. Afterwards worked with several teams to come up with several possible avenues for replacing the costly procedure, and hopefully save over $1 million per year in court data expenses.• Developed a modification to daily client reporting that saved several hours of time. This resulted in a near perfect report delivery, and garnering glowing comments from the clients, happy to have their data even earlier. Additionally, created a process to handle federal holidays, which had previously been a massive manual ordeal that used to result in late reports and violated SLAs, sometimes with resulting payment penalties.• Stood up SSRS and SSIS for AACER. Previously no enterprise type reporting was available, and all data needs were either serviced by manual data retrievals or went unfulfilled. By working with users and creating simple reports, was able to radically alter data usage patterns and take days off of several processes. With SSIS, generated the ability to quickly turn out proof of concept or quick projects that the development team could not create quickly.• Improved SQL processes by working with the development team to create simple, performant SQL code standards. In addition, proactively searched for poorly performing queries, usually through Brent Ozar’s sp_Blitz queries or using SentryOne. Then rewrote these queries to either be quicker, more efficient, get better plans, or in a few cases increase accuracy. Also took ownership off all the SQL Server Agent jobs, and helped reorganize and clean them up, while also improving performance and functionality. -

Also work with other departments to help them crystalize what data they truly want, alerting them to data considerations of which they may be unaware. Create SSIS projects to move data to third party vendors on an automatic basis scheduled by SQL Server Agent Jobs. SSRS ReportingBoth creating new reporting to client specifications, working with them to nail now their requests, as well as working with them to improve inherited reports. This includes the report structure itself as well as reworking the data query behind the report.SQL Server Performance Monitoring Using SentryOne (formerly SQL Sentry) as well as built-in Dynamic Management views and functions to monitor general SQL Server performance and contention. Work with users and DBA team to troubleshoot long running queries, blocking issues, or other problems. Create custom SentryOne alerts that are relevant to our environment to help ensure the team is fully aware of what’s going on across all of our SQL instances. -
Business Intelligence DeveloperMacfarlane Group Mar 2013 - May 2017I analyze SQL databases and create SSRS reports. The primary purpose is to find ways to grow the business and to recoup missed opportunities. I currently work in the Marketing department, as they require speedy and efficient results.Accomplishments for our US Product•Increased new product funding by almost $3 million, a gain of 14%. A unique system was in place to keep call center staff from being overwhelmed by customer volume that artificially increased lending standards in a very broad way. I noticed that this was also stopping leads from being purchased that needed no call center agent interaction. Working with executives and the dev team, we created a process that allowed the purchase of these leads, which lead to an immediate impact on weekly funding totals.•Created and maintained Marketing SSRS Reports. Worked with the Marketing and Operations departments to develop new SSRS reports, providing a deeper insight to leads and funding flow. Worked to correct issues in the store procedures driving existent reports that were creating false impressions, or lead to broken reports.Accomplishments for our UK ProductDecreased FPD from over 50% of portfolio to under the 11% target. Worked with UK credit reference agencies and other internal depts. I troubleshot the entire underwriting process to allow acceptance of better performing customers while keeping all depts as satisfied as possible. This included:Realizing we were sending birth date data, a key component in ID verification, to UK credit reference agency in US format of MM/DD/YYYY, instead of UK format of DD/MM/YYYY. This was causing only customers with reflexive birth dates to be purchased; i.e. customers that were born on Jan 1st, Feb 2nd, Mar 3rd, etc. Auditing stored procedures used to evaluate leads, finding errors, and working with development to correct them.Decreased verification costs by over £1000 per day by working with the dev team to block multiple submissions of the same customer.
