The Marine Engineering Group is part of the Naval Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05) and provides marine engineering support to the Naval Sea Systems Command. The Marine Engineering Competency Domain includes 105 headquarters engineering personnel; 27 on-site personnel (engineers, analysts, and administrative professionals); and approximately 2,000 professionals Navy Surface Warfare Centers located at Philadelphia, Carderock, Port Hueneme, Newport, and Crane.The Marine Engineering Group serves as the Navy’s technical authority for machinery systems for submarines, surface ships, and aircraft carriers, including propulsion, electrical, and auxiliary systems.–Technical Authority decision making, analysis, and stewardship–Development and maintenance of specifications, standards & processes; Participation on investigation and contract technical review teams; Concept studies and technology roadmaps; Fleet readiness response and engagement; and Acquisition Program support–First response for ship incidents (groundings, collisions, battle damage, critical equipment failures); Engineering evaluation of machinery damage–Management and oversight for Marine Engineering programs (Fleet spares, gas turbine overhauls, diesel engines, steam systems, submarine atmospheric control, Fleet energy conservation, submarine weapons handling and launch systems, and ERM)–Total Ownership Cost reduction efforts; Leadership and oversight of major CNO and Command initiatives including Energy Conservation–Leadership for future power capabilities–Collaboration with Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, industry, academia and Foreign Military Sales cases in areas of defined technical authority–New technology development, demonstration and implementation: Hybrid Electric Drive, Integrated Power Systems

The Ship Integrity and Performance Engineering Group serves as the United States Navy's technical authority for Vessel Signatures and Susceptibility, Vulnerability, Shock, Damage Control and Firefighting, ChemBio Defense, Ship and Submarine Structural Integrity, Structural Deep Submergence Systems, Corrosion Control, Metallic and Non-Metallic Materials, Welding, Fuels and Lubricants, Environmental Protection, Weights, Stability, Hydrodynamics and Arrangements. Through this technical authority the Ship Integrity and Performance Engineering Group: •Establishes processes, specificatoins, standards and tools supporting future capabilities and current readiness•Develops and negotiates risk based complex technical solutions supporting major stakeholders including Naval Reactors, Affiliated Program Executive Offices and the Navy Enterprise•Provides Ship Integrity and Performance technical and managerial direction for all ships, aircraft carriers, and submarines•Certifies that ships, aircraft carriers, submarines and vehicles meet Ship Integrity and Performance requirements supporting Joint or National Response readiness•Oversees Technical Authority execution supporting ship readiness, environmental readiness, total ownership cost, safety and reliable operation•Defines common work processes and information management schemes•Supports Critical Safety Initiatives, Commonality objectives, cost control initiatives and Cumbersome Work Practices efforts
