I have been an electrician most of my adult working life. It started with my grandfather teaching me one day when he was wiring a barn; I was inquisitive enough that he became my first teacher. When I was old enough to get hired on for my first full time job at MFA Inc I was fortunate that I found another man willing to teach me of motor control wiring and PLC logic control or in other terms, industrial electricity. At this point I have never looked at doing any thing else with my life. I get the same rush wiring up a 150HP electric motor, depressing the start button and hearing the kick of the motor winding up to max RPM's. Just as much as someone whom rebuilt a classic car starting it up for the first time and letting the engine growl.As thankful as I am to MFA and my ex colleague for the ten years of experience they passed on to me, I still possessed a need for more experience. So I went to a community college and enrolled in a technical field of electricity, which was fitting seems I was the electrical technician with MFA.Although MFA did not last I found a home with an electrical contractor in Columbia named Midway Electric. My time with Midway was only two years, in which I learned quite a lot about the residential and commercial side of electrical contracting. Although not difficult just different in the people you meet such as clients and city officials. My respect for the NEC code derived from these meetings and how serious the implications are if the code is not followed. I will never forget those whom stressed the value and safety practices the code enforces.With the passing of Midway comes Semco Inc were I started as an electrical designer (as I said, "my entire adult working life"). At this point I have done graduated community college and am setting a personal goal of graduatig with a bachelors in electrical engineering. Thanks to Semco and its reimbursment plan I was able to accomplish this goal in 2012.
