As lead auditor this required planning, coordination and execution of audits with the division director, project managers, and the audit team, as well as, oversight of all aspects of work products such as audit programs, reports, and workpapers. As lead auditor it required extensive planning and execution of daily and weekly work plans and regular meetings with company officials and internal staff (mostly project manager and audit team, and occassionally with senior management, commissioners, and the chairman). The lead auditor was the key member of the team responsible for completing high quality work within established milestones for each phase of the audit, including planning, field work, reporting, and compliance implementation. Team lead required the ability to collect, document, and present evidence to support compliance conclusions and articulate those conclusions in a convincing manner to project managers, directors, and the audited companies for acceptance.As team leader was knowledgeable with generally accepted accounting principles, uniform system of accountings for regulated entities, generally accepted auditing standards, federal regulations under the federal power act and natural gas act, regulated companies cost of service rates, tariff terms and conditions, electric and pipeline operations, market structures and design, and more.

Served as team leader and member on various market reviews, daily and monthly energy market reports, investigations, and audits. Planned, coordinated and conducted monthly analysis of price movements, market developments and trends, and emerging issues. Prepared and issued daily and monthly reports to keep the chairman, commissioners, and senior management abreast of current market conditions. Routinely filled the shoes of a coach and/or subject matter expert as it pertained to data gathering, manipulation, analysis, review, and presentation. Analyzed supply and demand conditions for both electric and gas, which the Commission incorporated into public reports and presentations. Worked on high profile projects, including Southeast and Northeast Market Assessments, and Western Bulk Power Investigation. The investigation involved assessement of California Independant System Operator and Price Exchange market rules and operations, and manipulation involving Enron Corporation and other large energy marketers which led to historically high electric and natural gas prices and energy shortages.

As a senior auditor it required planning the audit approach; preparing and reviewing workpapers; designing and preparing audit programs; performing and managing audit suvey and field work, conducting entrance and closing conferences, writing issues and reports, and mentoring and daily communcations with team members.Selected from several candidates to be a team leader/coach for a newly created employee training development program. For this program trained and led new and junior auditors on several oil pipeline audits. The Commission utilized the results of these audits for issuing two separate Notice of Proposed Rulemakings and Orders related to the oil industries accounting and financial reporting requirements. Also team leader for a special audit requested by the House Energy Subcommittee. The audit required analysis of electric industries advertising expenditures before and after deregulation. Reported results to the Chairman and House Energy Subcommittee, who received three separate reports. The House Energy Subcommittee acknowledged to the Commission that the information provided them an understanding and appreciation of electric companies accounting, ratemaking, and early onset of deregulated markets.

Responsible for conducting on-site compliance audits of electric utility and natural gas companies within the United States. Job required 100 percent travel; minimal supervision; self discipline and motivation; ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of a company; understanding and application of technical accounting and auditing principles; working knowledge of various computer software programs. During my tenure, I audited three natural gas pipeline companies and six electric utility companies. Each audit required working with new auditors, management, and company personnel. The ability to adapt quickly to changing working environments, industry rules and regulations, and accounting principles was a key. New issues constantly arose with the onset and emergence of deregulation, open markets, competition, and unbundling of services. Adapting to these changes required thinking outside the box and being proactive with audit analysis and techniques.
