After graduating from the University of Idaho in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in English, I went on to the Poynter Institute for Media Studies where I was part of its summer fellowship for college graduates as a writing fellow. I began working as a reporter for The Spectrum & Daily News in St. George, Utah, in September 2004, covering city and county government for two years before moving over to The Spectrum's features desk, where I covered arts and entertainment, religion, travel, outdoors, minority issues, health, food and more. During this time, I was also the Utah correspondent for USA Today from November 2005 to August 2015 and the lead writer for St. George Magazine. In January 2018, I switched industries from journalism to public relations after taking a job as a public relations specialist at Scottsdale Arts, where I primarily worked with Scottsdale Public Art and Scottsdale Arts Learning & Innovation, including the major annual event Canal Convergence. After a year in that role, I was promoted to senior communications specialist, emphasizing my role in overseeing copyediting and adherence to house style throughout the organization as well as my role as photographer. In October 2021, I was promoted to communications manager, initially overseeing the communications and digital marketing specialists within the Marketing and Communications Department. Since 2023, I've been the senior communications manager with added responsibilities for some internal communications in addition to previous oversight for all external communications, internal style and copyediting, photography, and written content for marketing materials and the organizational website. On the side, I have worked as a freelance writer, editor, and photographer. My writing has appeared in newspapers, magazines, travel council publications, arts organization press releases, and even a law firm's website. Editing projects include websites, artist bios, nonfiction books, and research papers. And I've photographed a variety of subjects, mostly for arts organizations.
