We develop and implement technologies with the ultimate goal of providing large-scale personalized genomic medicine throughout healthcare. Our group at the Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) Molecular Genomics Laboratory currently provides clinical genomics testing for hospitals and clinics across PSJH. We have rapidly expanded clinical testing from single-gene and small gene panels to clinically-validated comprehensive genomic profiling and whole genome sequencing-based assays. I also run an independent research laboratory at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute (EACRI) focused on integrating diverse multi-omics and health data to gain novel insights into health and disease. We have applied these approaches recently to several large-scale projects including the Human Microbiome Project, the NASA Twins Study and currently the large-scale characterization of SARS-CoV-2 genomes across the health system.
