About Brian Power

Originally from Kilkenny in Ireland, Brian is currently a Lecturer in Nutrition at University College London. Prior to joining the University, Brian served as a lecturer in nutrition and dietetics at London Metropolitan University and the University of Hertfordshire. He is interested in understanding and changing eating and physical activity behaviours and the development and evaluation of behaviour change interventions. He is a registered Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council, and has experience working as a clinical dietitian in hospitals in Ireland, London and the Midlands, England.Brian has also spent some time volunteering in India. His voluntary work was part of a wider nutritional surveillance project for Seva Mandir, a community development non-profit organisation in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan, India.

    The aim of this Medical Research Council (MRC) funded project was to develop a workplace-based weight management programme for nurses in a UK health service context. This was achieved through three studies involving: (1) a systematic literature review of the evidence base; (2) semi-structured interviews with nurses’ and (3) a cross sectional questionnaire study with nurses. The MRC framework for the development and evaluation of complex interventions was used as a guide to developing the programme.
