I am currently working as an Archives Technician (Contract) for LAC Federal at the Library of Congress in the Music Division. My role is to reprocess and rehouse around 2,000 boxes of archival material in various formats comprising the records of the Federal Theatre Project, one of the Music Division's most heavily used collections. I'm responsible for improving the storage conditions of the collection and assisting in improving access online access to the collection.My passion in archives is principally processing historic paper records but I'm interested in all facets of the profession. I am a recent (2020) graduate of the Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program at the University of Maryland with a focus on Archives & Digital Curation. I recently completed a contract job with the National Park Service archival facility in Charles Town, West Virginia digitizing over 5,000 photo assets, rehousing them and embedding the digital assets with descriptive metadata for online searching. Prior to that I completed an internship with the Smithsonian National Museum of American History Archives Center conducting initial processing and holdings maintenance on new manuscript collections, completing data entry in ArchivesSpace and assisting researchers in the reference room. I also completed an internship with the Historical Society of Washington DC (DC History Center) assisting with their collection move and updating location records in their PastPerfect archival software.Additionally, I am a member of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC), I've volunteered with the Maryland State Archives on their Legacy of Slavery in Maryland project and volunteered to support speaker sessions at the DC History Conference.I am based in Washington DC but open to opportunities in Richmond, VA and elsewhere in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area.
