About Brian Query

My objectives in my career are to seek out more unique bridges in which to utilize my experience. I currently have worked on the basics, such as simple span steel girders, prestressed concrete girders, pedestrian bridges, single point urban interchanges (SPUI), pedestrian bridges, bridge retrofits, segmental concrete girder bridges and light rail bridges.Currently, my career has led me to coordinating structural design for multiple offices on light rail projects. From Blue Line for CATS (Charlotte, NC) to Blue Line Extension for CATS (Charlotte, NC) to Green Line Extension for MBTA (Boston, MA) to Silver Line for CATS (Charlotte, NC), my career has mainly been focused on transit projects. This covers everything from direct fixation bridges to ballasted deck bridges, light rail loading to freight loading and about everything inbetween. I pride myself in thinking outside the box to have unique solutions to out of the ordinary problems. I love to branch out and design new types of bridges and use my knowledge gained in my Master's program to apply it to new projects.

SCDOT Load Rating Project – Project ManagerSTV served as a subconsultant for a contract to provide bridge load rating and evaluation services for the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in support of a larger project to provide load ratings for all state, county, or other municipality owned structures throughout South Carolina. STV is responsible for performing load rating analyses on 349 bridges located in SCDOT District 1, which includes the counties of Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Richland, and Sumter. Mr. Query led the STV team for 349 load ratings that required careful planning of team resources and established detailed procedures for preparing and checking the load rating calculations and reports. The load rating of all structures was completed in accordance with the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, SCDOT’s Load Rating Guidance Document, and applicable SCDOT’s e-Notifications and Technical Notes. The AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) software was used for load rating all bridges and culverts, except for structures that are beyond the capabilities of the AASHTOWare BrR software. In situations where a structure could not be load rated using the AASHTOWare BrR software, an approved alternative software package was used to load rate the structure. The load ratings encompassed a wide variety of structures, including:• Steel plate girders and rolled beams (simple and continuous spans)• Horizontally curved steel plate girders• Steel girder/floorbeam systems• Steel through trusses• Reinforced concrete slab spans• Prestressed concrete slab spans• Prestressed concrete double tee beams• Prestressed concrete beams• Concrete arches• Reinforced concrete box culverts• Steel pipe culvertsMr. Query also coordinated the team that provided routine site assessments (field investigations) on all 349 bridges that were load rated.
